Matariki guidance and public logo pack

Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage has published guidance to help all New Zealanders celebrate Matariki and ensure mātauranga Māori remains at the heart of this important kaupapa.

The theme for 2023 is Matariki Kainga Hokia – Matariki calls you home. Traditionally Matariki heralded a time for ‘being together at home’ - celebrating, feasting, and spending time with whānau and friends. With that in mind, we want to encourage everyone to call their loved ones home this year and prepare to be together.

The Mānawatia a Matariki tohu is a copyrighted work which was commissioned by Te Arawhiti and designed by Extended Whānau.

The official Matariki public holiday logo is available for everyone to use for non-commercial use.

Matariki is deeply intertwined with Māori culture. If you are looking to support, participate or whakanui i a Matariki, please ensure it is for genuine reasons. This logo cannot be used in association with alcohol, gambling or fast food.

If you would like to use the tohu to print your own merchandise, please refer to the relevant section in our Terms of Use. ‍

Please read our brand guidelines and Terms of Use before using our logo.
